Cairo, In a significant step toward executing the State’s plan for industrial localization, achieving self-sufficiency, and promoting technology transfer, the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply, and the Management of Medical Technology (UPA) hosted a high-level meeting with Chinese counterparts.
Dr. Hisham Stait, Chairman of the UPA, welcomed Dr. Ashraf El Kholy, Chairman of the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals, and Mr. William Chen, Chairman of Sinobright, a prominent Chinese enterprise, along with their accompanying delegation.
Focus on Raw Materials and Biologics
The discussion centered on avenues for localizing various medical products, with a primary focus on pharmaceutical raw materials. Sinobright is recognized as one of the largest exporters of raw materials in China, making them a crucial potential partner in this initiative.
The Chinese delegation also expressed strong interest in localizing the manufacturing of other strategic industries within Egypt, including innovative biological medicines, medical devices, and supplies.
Strategic Partnership Commitment
Dr. Ashraf El Kholy, Chairman of the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals, affirmed the Holding Company’s readiness to enter into strategic partnerships with the Chinese side through its existing manufacturing facilities. He stated that such cooperation would significantly contribute to boosting raw material production and deepening the localization of pharmaceutical industries within Egypt.
Dr. Hisham Stait, Chairman of the UPA, welcomed the collaboration, emphasizing the UPA’s commitment to working with companies dedicated to localizing industry in Egypt. This aligns with the State’s broader efforts to achieve self-sufficiency, facilitate technology transfer, and solidify the localization of vital medical industries.
